Announcing Port87 Custom Domains

We’re very excited to announce the launch of custom domains on Port87! With this release, you can now bring your own domain names onto Port87 and send and receive email using addresses on your domains. Whether you’re an individual who wants to consolidate your email identity on your own domain or a team that needs to manage multiple users, Port87 custom domains will be a great fit for your email.

Why Custom Domains Matter

Owning your email identity is one of the best ways to both stand out and protect your space online. Present yourself in a professional light by using your own domain name for your email address. More importantly, make sure you’ll never lose your addresses by owning them yourself.

Using your own domain looks more professional than using a provider’s domain. (You can’t tell me you haven’t judged someone based on what comes after the “@” in their email address.) If you’re a brand owner, using your own branding in your email gives a much more polished, trustworthy appearance, especially on a business card.

Owning your own domain prevents “vendor lock-in”. By using your own domain, if Port87 ever stops meeting your email needs, you can pack up and move to a new provider without losing any of your addresses.

Domain names are great for families and groups! With the number of available TLDs (the part that comes at the end of the domain, like .com and .net) available today, you can personalize your whole family’s email addresses to your liking.

How Custom Domains Work

When you connect a domain to Port87, you can choose between two modes:

Personal Domains

  • Every address at your domain works automatically.
  • Format: [email protected]
  • Everything before the “@” becomes a label in your account.
  • Example: mail sent to friends@yourdomain will appear in the “friends” label in your account.
  • Each address can be configured to screen senders, just like a regular Port87 address.

This is a powerful option for individuals to organize your email.

Multi-User Domains

  • Designed for teams, families, and organizations.
  • Format: [email protected]
  • You assign a username to yourself and each user on your domain.
  • Everything between the “-” and “@” becomes a label in the user’s account.
  • Example: mail sent to hunter-friends@yourdomain will appear in the “friends” label in Hunter’s account.
  • Each address can be configured to screen senders, just like a regular Port87 address.

This design builds on the system we’ve always used for Port87’s own domain, now extended so you can use it with your own.

Security & Reliability

We know how important secure, reliable email is. That’s why custom domains comes with:

  • SPF and DKIM support, to protect against spoofing and improve deliverability.
  • A step-by-step DNS setup guide, to get you up and running quickly on all of your domains.
  • The same strong privacy and security protections that apply across Port87.

What’s Next?

We’re just getting started with custom domains. Soon, we’ll be adding these cool features:

  • Aliases, so you can create additional addresses without setting up new accounts. One user can have multiple addresses on multiple domains.
  • Mailing Lists, so you can deliver email to multiple users simultaneously with one address.

Both of these features will be released to custom domain subscribers at no additional cost.

Availability & Pricing

Custom domains are available starting Monday, September 8th, 2025. They are available for $9.99/month for unlimited domains. Additional users are available for $3.99/month per user. See our pricing page for full details.
